FRANCHISE PAYROLL · INDEPENDENTLY OWNED GREASE MONKEY

Your Pit Crew is paid by the tier. WageTime runs every tier, brand, and state.

A Grease Monkey Pit Crew is paid hourly by experience tier, from Courtesy Technician up to Technician A, and one owner often runs a SpeeDee or Kwik Kar next door. WageTime is payroll built for the tiers, the brands, and the state lines.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

The pay plan is simpler than the neighbors’. Generic payroll still gets the tiers wrong.

A Grease Monkey crew runs on hourly tiers, a Pit Crew certification, and an owner who often carries more than one brand. There is no bi-weekly bonus to reconcile and no commission sheet to fold in, so the math should be easy. It stops being easy the moment a Courtesy Technician covers a bay shift, a Grease Monkey and a SpeeDee share an office, or a crew works two states in one week. That is where the tiers, the brands, and the state lines all land on one person after close.

HOURLY, BY THE TIER

Pay is the Pit Crew level, not a spiff run

Grease Monkey pays its Pit Crew by experience tier: a Courtesy Technician on vacuums and glass, a Technician C with a couple of years in the bay, a Technician A with five. Salary trackers put the work near hourly, with almost no additional pay, so the rate is the tier and the tier is the rate. Generic payroll treats every tech as one flat number and loses the ladder that actually sets the check.

WHEN THE TIERS MIX

One tech, two rates, one overtime week

A Courtesy Technician who covers a bay shift, or a tech promoted from C to B on a Wednesday, works two rates in one week. Overtime past forty then has to compute on the weighted-average of both rates, not whichever was easier to type. Pay the over-forty hours on one tier alone and you have the exact regular-rate shortfall the Labor Department keeps writing up in the automotive trade.

TWO BRANDS, TWO BACK OFFICES

Grease Monkey here, SpeeDee or Kwik Kar there

Grease Monkey shares a franchisor, FullSpeed Automotive, with SpeeDee Oil Change and Kwik Kar, so a single owner often runs more than one brand. Each brand wants its own EIN, its own filings, and its own labor line, but the owner still needs one view across all of them. A pile of logins, one per brand, is how a filing slips.

CERTIFY THE PIT CREW

Grease Monkey University, and nobody tracking it

Grease Monkey certifies its Pit Crew through its own training program, with Grease Monkey University running the online coursework up toward ASE prep. That certification is what makes a Certified Pit Crew, and it is the milestone that steps a tech up a tier. Right now it lives on a manager’s spreadsheet, disconnected from the record that actually pays the person.

FOUR STATES, FOUR RULE SETS

A Colorado base and a Mountain-West spread

Grease Monkey was founded in Denver and runs heavily across the Mountain West, so a growing operator crosses state lines fast. Colorado, the home state, layers a daily overtime rule on top of the weekly one, and every state sets its own minimum wage. A crew that works two states in one week meets two rule sets, and one spreadsheet was never going to catch both.

Each of these gets a real product screen below, shown with sample franchise data.
01 · PAID BY THE TIER

How does payroll handle hourly Pit Crew tiers when one tech works two rates in a week?

WageTime gives each Pit Crew tier its own hourly pay code at its own rate, and when a tech works two of them in one week, a bay-shift cover or a mid-period promotion, overtime past forty computes on the weighted-average of both automatically.

  • A promotion steps the rate on its effective date, no retro math.
  • A courtesy-check spiff is nondiscretionary pay; it folds into the overtime rate.
  • Minimum-wage processing at federal, state, and local levels.
  • Unlimited runs, so a weekly Pit Crew cadence adds nothing.

02 · ONE OWNER, MORE THAN ONE BRAND

Can I run a Grease Monkey and a SpeeDee from one login, each under its own EIN?

Yes: WageTime holds each brand as its own entity and EIN, or each store a department under one, with a single login across the portfolio and labor reported per store, per brand, or combined.

  • Role-based access: store, district, and owner see their own scope.
  • Taxes filed per entity; reporting per company or combined.
  • Department-level controls and division-level overrides hold both banners to one standard.

03 · THE CERTIFIED PIT CREW

Do Grease Monkey University training and Pit Crew certification track through payroll?

Training and certification track on the same employee record that sets pay. WageTime’s learning module assigns the Grease Monkey University coursework, marks completion, and logs the Pit Crew certification that steps a tier, all in one place instead of a manager’s spreadsheet.

  • Certification and the pay tier that follows it on one record.
  • Recurring 30/60/90-day alerts: a state inspection license to an ASE prep milestone.
  • Documents stored on the record, not in a binder.

04 · A COLORADO BASE, A MULTI-STATE CREW

How does payroll handle a Mountain-West operator crossing state lines?

A second state becomes a tax profile, not a second payroll company: WageTime files every federal, state, and local tax automatically, across all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and more than 11,000 local jurisdictions.

  • Minimum-wage processing at federal, state, and local levels on real hours.
  • Weighted-average overtime whenever a tech works two tiers in a week.
  • Rooftop-level geolocation, reciprocity, effective-dated setup, withholding overrides per state.
  • How a state’s daily-overtime or minimum-wage rule applies is a question for your counsel.
  • Multi-state pay plans confirmed with a specialist on the demo.

05 · HOURS OUT OF THE STORE SYSTEM

What happens to the clock hours LubeSoft or your point-of-sale already logs?

The clock hours your point-of-sale logs import straight into the run, no double entry: WageTime brings them in per store, LubeSoft or whatever system you run, then rolls every store into one run for the group. The exact flow gets confirmed on the demo.

  • Hours coded to the store and the job, cost codes up to 40 characters.
  • QuickBooks posting by department, plus configurable GL export.
  • Open onboarding steps flagged on the import before the run.
  • Electronic I-9 and E-Verify tracked on the employee record.

Grease Monkey franchise payroll FAQ

How are Grease Monkey Pit Crew technicians paid, and can payroll handle the tiers?

Grease Monkey pays its Pit Crew by experience tier, from Courtesy Technician to Technician A, mostly as straight hourly with little commission. WageTime runs each tier as its own hourly pay code at its own rate, and when a tech works two tiers in one week, overtime past forty hours computes on the weighted-average of both rates automatically.

Can I run a Grease Monkey and a SpeeDee or Kwik Kar from one payroll?

Yes. Grease Monkey, SpeeDee Oil Change, and Kwik Kar share the FullSpeed franchisor, and many owners run more than one brand. WageTime runs each brand under its own EIN with its own filings, one login across all of them, and labor reported per store, per brand, or combined, with role-based access per location.

Do Grease Monkey University training and Pit Crew certification track in the system?

Yes. WageTime’s learning module assigns the coursework and marks completion on each tech’s record, and Pit Crew certification is tracked like any credential, with documents attached and recurring alerts at 30, 60, and 90 days. Because the pay tier follows the certification, clearing the cert and stepping the rate happen on one record.

We run stores in more than one state. How does payroll handle that?

WageTime files every federal, state, and local tax automatically across all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and more than 11,000 local jurisdictions, with reciprocity and rooftop-level geolocation. Minimum-wage processing runs at federal, state, and local levels, and Colorado’s daily overtime rule and each state’s wage floor should be reviewed with a specialist on the demo.

How do the hours get from LubeSoft or our point-of-sale into payroll?

WageTime imports clock hours so there is no double entry. Tell us your store system on the demo and we will confirm the exact flow for your setup; WageTime does not claim a direct integration with LubeSoft or any point-of-sale system. Inside WageTime, hours code to the store and the job, and time tracking flows straight into the run.

What does payroll cost for a Grease Monkey franchise?

$50 a month for the company plus $10 per person actually paid that month, with unlimited runs, so a weekly cadence and a midweek run cost nothing extra. Filings, W-2s, and 1099s are included. Run a Grease Monkey and a SpeeDee as separate LLCs? Each keeps its own EIN, with one login and combined reporting.
